Penn Art Club and Contemporary Culture and Visual Arts in Harrison College House invite you to Art Speakers at Penn (ASAP) with John Abner on November 10th
“Art as political and social commentary is merely a way to ‘say it out loud.’”
Mr. Abner is a community human rights activist and artist, contributing visual social and political commentary in Roll Call: A Generational Anthology of Black Literature and Art by Third World Press, In Defense of Mumia by Writers and Readers Publishing, Inc. and in The Patterson Literary Review. He has exhibited locally and nationally and has coordinated art projects with the Mural Arts Program, the Camden County Correctional Facility, and at Holmesburg Prison in Philadelphia.
Continuing his commitment to young people, Mr. Abner teaches art at Mathematics, Civics, and Sciences Charter School in Philadelphia. He also worked as an art instructor and mentor for teenaged boys at the Southwest Community Enrichment Center and is active in the Teen Summit Youth Organization. |
