Academic Work in Progress with Helena Von Nagy: Shakespeare in Argentina

What:

Join us for a Works in Progress featuring Harrison resident Helena Von Nagy. She will present her experiences and research on the Global Shakespeare Movement and Shakespeare in Argentina, informed by an Argentine production of King Lear:

When the people understand Shakespeare, they are less likely to fall for the games or politicians. Shakespeare reveals power in all of its forms and wakes us up. --Mercedes de la Torre, President of the Fundación Shakespeare Argentina.

How can we understand the Shakespeare movement in Argentina? How do Argentines view Shakespeare? What implications does translating Shakespeare have?  Can we use Shakespeare to analyze politics? Helena von Nagy attempts to answer these questions and create a framework to use international productions of Shakespeare as a lenz through which to view popular perceptions of politics?
