Theatre Arts Program Spring 2021 Virtual Production Roles

In Spring 2021, the Theatre Arts Program will present three virtual productions – two senior directing thesis projects, and a devised performance as part of Theatre Arts 350. Learn more about how you can audition or get involved behind the scene for each of these productions. All roles for the spring will be virtual!

Senior Thesis Project:
La Mujer Que Cayó del Cielo
Directed by Suzy Tamayo
Based on the true heartbreaking story of Rita Quintero, La Mujer Que Cayó del Cielo portrays the challenges and confusion that language barriers can create when a migrant finds herself detained and misunderstood in Kansas. The play is written primarily in Spanish with some dialogue in Rarámuri (a Mexican indigenous language) and English.

Senior Thesis Project:
The Exception and the Rule
Directed by James Noonan
A one act play that explores the tensions between a rich oil merchant and his two lowly workers (whom he grows increasingly suspicious of during their trip through the desert), the play touches on themes of class inequality, the realities of extractive capitalism, and the injustices perpetuated by the status quo: themes that feel just as relevant today as they did when Brecht wrote the play 90 years ago.

Theatre Arts 350: Rehearsal and Performance
A New Devised Performance
Directed by Dr. Jennifer Thompson

This spring, the full-semester, for-credit course THAR350 Rehearsal & Performance departs from the acknowledgement that we cannot reproduce the theatre we knew but must forge the theatre anew. To that end, we’ll be developing a new virtual piece devised by the company.
